Organ Donation

Russell's Hall Hospital, Dudley, only receive 2 or 3 organ donors a year from their Critical Care Unit. Sam donated his organs, and from this donation the lives of 5 other people has been improved.

Sam's liver was transplanted into a 47 year old lady from the South of England who is married with two teenage daughters. This lady was suffering from chronic liver disease and a liver transplant was the only form of treatment availible. She is making very good progress and is now able to return home to her family. She has written to us expressing her thanks.

Sam's left kidney was transplanted into a 50 years old lady from the Midlands. She had been waiting for a transplant since March 2000. Sam's right kidney was transplanted into a 53 year old gentleman with diabetes from the North of England. He is married with two grown up children and has been waiting for a transplant since 1999. Both recipients can now look forward to a better life free from dialysis and dietry restrictions.

On the 17th of October 2003 Sam's aortic heart valve was transplanted to a 3 month old baby girl from the Midlands, his pulmonary valve was transplanted into a little girl on November 4th. Both children had been born with heart defects and have made good progress since the transplant.

Sam's lungs are being used for reseach into asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
