@ VIP Room, Sanctuary, Birmingham

"We turn up with the PC and set up. The room is a good venue, with comfy sofas and a window onto the somewhat desolate mainroom. Crunchy beats and floating melodies caress the ever-filling VIP room, and the beer begins to flow. The visuals are projected onto the ceiling above the bar.

After being granted a debuting DJ slot, I'd promptly decided to cause problems for myself, and got together with long-time cohort - guitarist Jon Garbett. We'd decided on a DJ Vs. Guitarist set-up with the inclusion of some random sound generating software.

The set goes well, being a kind of David Lynch soundtrack - a mash up of wah-wah guitar and, dubby basses, infused with occasional noise and lo-fi techno. I even manage to fit in an animation - 'Un Lapin' - a childrens song, with bouncing mutant rabbits, nicely fusing the visuals and sound. I also use my Random Sentence and Soundscape Generators. Jon backs the whole session with delayed chords and jazz licks. We leave with a smile on our face, a head full of ideas and a belly full of beer."
