Cognition/Personal Hygiene @ The Dance Factory (The Sanctuary), Birmingham, UK

"After a nightmare debugging the software and capturing new clips, we arrive at the Dance Factory to find we can't even get in the door (which was jammed..!). Anyway, once inside we hook up with the Brum Creative and find that the laptop and projector weve hired separately dont want to talk to each other, so our solution is to video the software straight from the laptop screen and plug the camera into the projector. This means we can wave the camera at the audience or DJ everytime the software crashes(!) saving the embarrassment of endless 'Script error' messages cluttering the projection.

After a delayed start, the evening really kicks off and Openminded start to shake the tables with their distorted electronica (Raaaa...). Quite by coincidence the main room VJ's are mates of mine from Uni. They're busy mixing up clips of exploding wildlife, social protest and other bizarre performance art. I laughed my ass off.

So all in all the evening was a success. The distorted breaks and techno hell in the main room nicely contrasted with distorted electronica and tweaks hell in the back! ;-)

It's an interesting debut for Psicon Lab. The strobed loops work well, as does the colour filtering and clips by Anesti. We leave feeling that the software needs a makeover (resulting in the slick, adaptable and easy to use version 5). "
