Concre[tefood]
Thoughts on the
performance
A central theme of Concre[tefood]
was the collection and destruction of knowledge,
knowledge represented in the form of text. It was
based around the relation of education and
experience and the questions of truth and belief.
In the original designs, this implication was
much more explicit than in the eventual
performance.
The concept of fragmented
reality (in this performance) comes from my
general philosophy (see philosophy) and the influence of The Name of
the Rose by Umberto Eco, which I have read
recently, and also to an extent by the films of
David Lynch in which threads of information and
character motives are disguised and distorted and
weaved in complex relations.
The title Conre[tefood]
obviously derived from the title of the
exhibition. The performance was based on the
interpretation of the idea "Concrete Food"
which came to represent mental consumption ie.
the gathering of knowledge.
I personally think of the title
as Conquer (the Food).
